The 1900 Packard Roadster was one of the first of a long line of distinguished quality cars in the higher priced field. Packard has always enjoyed the reputation for building fine cars and in its history has proved their worth on numerous occasions with record breaking accomplishments. The slogan «Ask the Man Who Owns One» was indicative of the pride and faith the builders had in Packard cars.
\nOur model was designed from an actual car which is very rare and which is in the possession of James Melton, noted Metropolitan Opera Star and antique auto collector, and is on display in the Melton Museum of Antique Automobiles located in Norwalk, Conn., on Route 7. We herewith acknowledge our grateful appreciation of Mr. Melton’s cooperation and help in preparing the kit.
\nThis car was a one cylinder model having the engine located under the rear deck behind the seat. Drive was by means of a sprocket chain to the rear axle and there were three speeds forward and a reverse. The car is notable for the unique and efficient springing [used. The workmanship was of the finest and the engineering is remarkable considering the era in which the car was built. Its lines are rugged and practical and the car appears to have been built for many miles of trouble-free motoring.
